Our story

Cheese Valley, a unique area in the middle of the Groene Hart region. It is made up of four municipalities with special stories and experiences and, above all, it’s the heart and origin of real cheese, Holland’s yellow gold.

Traditional craftsmanship and entrepreneurship come together in the middle of the green heart of the Netherlands. This is where you’ll find the taste of the low countries: cheese, in its purest form. From grass to cheese. Our story. We tell everyone who comes here that they really need to see and experience our landscape, because we are proud of the wetlands that we have been shaping and managing for centuries. We also love to show off our modern farms, businesses and techniques. We’re passionate about letting others see the processes involved in making, ripening and turning the cheese.

And don’t forget the star of the show… our cheeses! Thirty million kilos or 66 million pounds of yellow gold is ripened here, more than anywhere else in the Netherlands. From young to mature, in all shapes and sizes. The doors of our cheese makers and cheese warehouses are open to everyone. Farm life and hospitality are tangible and the sincere attention to the environment, animals and sustainability are visible. In everything we make and do here.
